It began as an undeniable pounding. It was a rhythmic beating, like something trapped behind a locked door. It thudded. Thud. Thud. Thud. It was growing louder… more urgent. It wanted out. Jim Hunt opened his eyes from what was once a peaceful slumber. His roommate’s booming stereo slamming its bass through the walls of their South Florida apartment made short work of that.
Eric Warner, Jim’s roommate and fellow college freshman had a taste for club and hip-hop music that Jim had never quite acquired, despite Eric’s daily psychological attacks with the stuff. Almost three months into their co-habitation, Jim was beginning to feel like the honeymoon may be coming to an end. Jim closed his eyes once again – it was Saturday after all. The thudding bass blasts rumbled through his chest. Did Eric just turn it up?
With a sigh, Jim opened his eyes once again and heaved his tan, athletic body into a sitting position. He sat on the side of his bed for just a moment, rubbed his eyes and then stood.
