“Baby brat, you need spanking,” he replied softly.
“No, I don’t,” she squeaked, his low-voiced endearment making her emotions crave a connection, to beg for his touch.
One big hand pulled her in close and the other one rubbed the cheeks he’d just slapped. Involuntarily her breasts hardened and jutted into his hard chest as her backside arched into the caress like a cat seeking pets.
“Especially some reward spankings for being a good girl. If you ever decide to stop fighting me and earn them.”
His hand slipped up her back and under her hair, then gently tugged her head back. She was powerless to resist, his body feeling so damned good against hers. It had been too long and she’d missed him with everything in her. When his lips gently nibbled hers, she groaned in surrender and lifted her arms around his neck to pull him closer.
All too soon he released her mouth and rested his forehead against hers. “I’ve missed you, honeydoll. Will you stop fighting me and let me take care of you and Levi?”
Gathering her resolve around her like a cloak, she tensed and moved out of his arms. “I don’t need someone to just take care of me, Sawyer,” she finally replied. “I want someone who actually loves me and wants me. You want your son, I get that. But I won’t be an extension of Levi that you feel obligated to take care of. I’ll be getting an apartment as soon as the threat to Levi is passed.”
She tried to brush past him but he caught her arm. “When are you going to get it through your little head that I do love you?” Exasperation and frustration were spilling over as he yanked her in close to his chest and kissed her again, hard and punishing.
The yearning for that kiss ignited in Emma’s body and left her breathless. When he lifted his head, she fought out of his arms with tears running down her face. Chest heaving, she glared at him. “You may say that you love me, but the truth is, if you’d ever really loved me, you wouldn’t have given me up. Admit it, Sawyer, you were never in love with me. I was just a lovesick young girl who desperately saw a happy ever after in your arms. And then you dumped me.”
She was trembling with anger and unhappiness, as she accused him of his crimes. Then she tried to run past him again and back to the house, but he snagged her and dipped her over his shoulder as if he’d had all kinds of practice.
“This time we are going to settle this once and for all,” he retorted, carrying her easily towards the barn. “This time you are going to listen to me, baby brat, even if I have to spank you tonight.”
